Food photography might seem like a piece of cake but in reality it's very far from being that easy. Fortunately we enjoy challenges at Proto Photography, so we took up this one with our usual enthusiasm and positive attitude.

Key ingredients to successful food imagery:

1. Lighting, lighting and lighting.
2. Skillful food stylist
3. Fast work pace
4. Attention to details & TONS of patience!

If you mix all of the above together and spice it up with a few food photography tricks, you most probably will exceed your expectations even on the very first attempt!

Just don't forget to pour motor oil instead of maple syrup on top of your pancakes, use butter with food coloring for ice-cream and insert some cardboard and toothpicks between the layers of a sandwich to make it look as perfect as they show it on TV. Oh, and don't forget to add some fake ice to your drink! Bonn Appetite!

California Dreaming

Recently we had the pleasure to getaway from the blazing heat of Vegas and ventured to Northern California, so we could finally wear a jacket and of course expand our collection of travel and nature photography. We explored the small fishing town of Trinidad which is located just south of the most magnificent of all forests, Redwoods National Park. The experience was so mesmerizing we could hardly resist sharing some photographs from our favorite spots.

And of course we couldn't come back to the desert without stopping through San Fransisco to do a bit of sight seeing and have a nice bowl of clam chowder on the pier.

The Las Vegas Trade Show industry brings in an endless variety of marketable goods and services from exhibitors and vendors from all over the world. From electronics, to fashion, to the Star Trek convention. If you can market it your sure to see it at one of the 23,000 conventions held annually here in Las Vegas.

Steelhead Productions, America's leading provider of custom trade show exhibits and displays for purchase or rental, has been hiring Proto Photography on a consistent basis to capture the essence of their products. Not only has this wonderful partnership become a great opportunity for us to capture very interesting and unique architectural constructions, but has also given us a chance to explore such major trade shows as ConExpo & CTIA Wireless.

Jesse and Sierra wanted to have portraits that would be simple but fun, a little bit flirty yet romantic, that would tell their love story. And here's a couple images that we have created for them.

Pet Photography

A dog is a man's best friend... but so are the cat, bird, fish, hamster, snake and all the rest animals who we keep as pets and love so much. Unfortunately many animals, just like kids, are all grown up before you know it. What better way to light up your soul with sweet memories of Spike or Felix than with an ever lasting portrait of your pet.

We were extremely excited when Roger, owner of Nico & Pepper called us up to photograph his kids. He wanted to give his girlfriend Bernie something special and figured that portraits of their dogs would be the best gift ever. Was Roger right? Well, judge for yourself.

Professional Headshots

A great background is definitely the stepping stone in getting you dream job, but nothing else will make you stand out more than a professionally executed headshot attached to your resume.

The main purpose of a headshot is to promote a person as they are, accentuating the subject's best qualities. In acting industry, your headshot is your "business card". If your photograph doesn't catch the director's attention at least for a half a second, consider yourself out.

Dorces Idowu is an aspiring actress, trying to conquer the theatrical scene of Vegas. She chose Proto Photography for her headshots and here's what made her scream out loud "Oh my God, this is so gorgeous!"

Last time we talked with Dorces on the phone, she let us know that her recent audition was a real success and everyone loved her photograph.

Baby Portraits

One of the most difficult subjects for photographers are kids. Every parent knows how challenging it can be sometimes to calm down their baby. Now imagine what happens when a curious child comes to the photographer's studio filled with tons of equipment, wires, and lots of interesting gadgets. You do the math. However, at Proto Photography we strive to capture the essence of every subject we photograph, even if they did just wake up from their afternoon nap.

Recently we had a pleasure of photographing one of the most adorable kids you'll ever see. Dorian came with his parents Stephanie and Chris, who participated in the photosession to the fullest.

Mamiya Award of Excellence

After scoring in the top 10% of all portfolios at Hallmark Institute of Photography, Las Vegas photographer Olga Minkevitch has been honored one of the top awards in the photography world - Mamiya Award of Excellence and a full page spread of her ad in American Photo Magazine (Nov/Dec 2007) sponsored by MAC group.

"I never really participated in any contests or competitions before, and had a personal exhibition only once in the summer of 2006. So, winning the Mamiya Award of Excellence for my commercial portfolio really meant the world to me. Being a photographer, it's hard to always feel confident about your images. A true artist is always critical of their work. Showing my photography to people is almost like exposing a part of my soul.
